Matter is a common language; Thread is a radio. Together they make devices from different brands cooperate without a cloud in between.
For years the smart home was a set of islands: one app for bulbs, another for the lock, a third for the thermostat. Matter fixes the language problem — a Matter device can be controlled by any Matter controller, whichever brand made it.
Thread is the radio
Thread is a low-power mesh network, similar in spirit to Zigbee. Battery sensors last years, and every mains-powered device strengthens the mesh. A Thread border router (built into our Pro hub) connects it to your home network.
What we recommend
Buy Matter where you can, but do not replace working Zigbee devices — our hubs bridge both into one system. For cameras, Wi-Fi remains the practical choice.
